Mid-Yorkshire Fungus Group
Mid-Yorkshire Fungus Group website redesign
Launched: 27th June 2025
Background:
The Mid-Yorkshire Fungus Group is a passionate collective of amateur and professional mycologists dedicated to researching, documenting, and promoting fungal biodiversity across Yorkshire. Despite their extensive fieldwork and impressive contributions to fungal science, their digital presence was limited to a self-built, single-page website that lacked structure, clarity, and functionality.
Challenges:
- A single-page format that couldn't adequately showcase the depth of research and educational material.
- Limited SEO and poor search visibility.
- No dedicated sections for news, events, identification tools, or educational resources.
- A dated, static design that didn’t reflect the group’s expertise or enthusiasm.
Our Solution:
We worked closely with MYFG to completely redesign their website with the following objectives in mind:
1. Multipage Website Architecture
We transitioned the site from a single page into a fully structured, multi-page website that now includes:
- About Us section explaining the group’s mission and members.
- Fungus Identification Resources, including interactive keys for Scutellinia and Geoglossum species.
- Events & Forays calendar to promote upcoming field meetings.
- News & Research Updates to share the latest discoveries and publications.
- A new Galleries page showcasing high-quality fungal photography.
- Contact and Membership options for community engagement.
2. Improved UX & Visual Design
- A clean, modern interface with professional styling, intuitive navigation, and mobile responsiveness.
- Imagery and graphics were used to highlight the beauty and complexity of fungi.
- Clear calls-to-action to encourage public involvement and knowledge sharing.
3. Built for Search & Engagement
- On-page SEO enhancements to support better Google rankings for key topics.
- Structured content to improve readability and user experience.
Results:
- The new website now serves as a credible, accessible hub for fungal research and education in Yorkshire.
- Increased engagement from amateur naturalists, students, and ecology professionals.
- Stronger positioning to support future outreach, collaborations, and funding opportunities.
